Saturday, October 4, 2008
Wailuku, Maui—As the Maui Coastal Land Trust (MCLT) enters into its fifth year of restoration efforts at the Waihe`e Refuge, volunteer opportunities are expanding to include a workday on the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon beginning October 18th. The project continues to welcome volunteers every Friday at the same time period.
MCLT's major goal at the 277-acre Waihe`e Refuge is to restore wetlands and coastal dune habitat for endangered Hawaiian birds, plants and insects. Volunteer work includes the eradication of invasive plant species along the shoreline and the planting of native vegetation. Volunteers are encouraged to bring sunscreen and water and wear sturdy shoes. Tools are provided.
