Kapalua Exclusive: Heli-Hike & Overnight, 8 People
Four couples will receive the once-in-a-lifetime experience of a full-day, guided heli-hike at Pu'u Kukui Watershed Preserve, complete with a one-night, deluxe-room stay at the newly renovated Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua. The hike, sponsored by Maui Land & Pineapple Company, is offered only once a year. A chopper lifts you from D. T. Fleming's historic Haela'au Cabin to the summit of Mauna Kahalawai (West Maui Mountains) at 5,788 feet. Descend 2.1 miles on the existing boardwalk, break for a brown bag lunch, then finish up the final 2.5 miles back to the cabin. Led by ML&P's Pu'u Kukui Watershed Preserve staff, the hike will focus on the unique natural communities of the Hawaiian mountain bogs and cloud forests, and the rare native flora and fauna found there.
